Binance or Kraken

The largest crypto exchange against the oldest regulated one. These are two different ways to hold money — here is both.

Compared by the numbers

Measured at the venues, not taken from their marketing. Volume stays out of the table: no two exchanges count it the same way, and a shared number nobody defines helps no one.

The difference in one sentence

Binance is scale, cheap trades and USDT as the base currency. Kraken is a real bank dollar, US regulation and fourteen unbroken years of operation.

What Binance gives you

Spot — over a thousand pairs and the best book depth on the market.

Futures and options — the full derivatives set.

P2P — the largest in the world: dozens of currencies, card-to-card in minutes.

Earn — savings, staking, dual investments, auto-invest.

Launchpad and Megadrop — new project launches.

Pay and card — spend crypto directly.

BNB token — a fee discount behind one toggle.

What Kraken gives you

Real dollars — around seven hundred USD pairs. You hold bank money on the account, not a token issued by a private company.

Bank transfers — deposit and withdraw dollars and euro straight through a bank.

Kraken Futures — a separate platform with perpetual and dated contracts.

Staking — one of the most developed on the market, with transparent terms and clear unbonding periods.

Kraken Pro — a professional terminal with advanced order types.

OTC desk — large trades away from the book.

US and European licences and public proof-of-reserves reporting.

Dollars against USDT

This is not a formality but a different structure of money. Kraken quotes almost everything against the real dollar: around seven hundred dollar pairs against fewer than fifty in USDT. On Binance it is the other way round.

The practical value of Kraken is that stablecoin depeg risk simply does not exist for you. That is exactly why our stablecoin section measures the honest dollar rate against Kraken: without a live USD pair there is nothing to compare USDT with.

For cross-exchange comparisons we take only USDT pairs from Kraken — mixing them with dollar pairs would not be honest, and there are not many of them.

Fees: what you pay for

Spot on Binance costs 0.1% both ways, the industry norm. Kraken starts at 0.40% for makers and 0.80% for takers, falling with thirty-day volume.

The gap honestly reflects two different models: Kraken maintains banking infrastructure, licences and reporting, and that costs money. For a long-term position the fee is paid once on entry. For frequent trading Binance is cheaper.

Getting money in and out

On Binance that means P2P: the largest offer market in the world, dozens of currencies, minutes per operation. On Kraken it means a bank transfer — familiar and transparent for anyone with a European or US bank account.

Who each one suits

Binance — if you trade actively, fund through P2P and count costs in tenths of a percent.

Kraken — if you hold a long-term position, work with real dollars and euro through a bank, stake, and value regulatory oversight.

What the numbers say

Of the two, only Binance publishes a USDT withdrawal price: 0.0100, chain BSC. The spot lists differ by 11.8× — 519 USDT pairs on Binance, 44 on the other side. Binance carries more perpetuals: 860 where the other has 209. Only Binance of the two reaches our P2P scanner, in 56 currencies.

Frequently asked

Which is cheaper?
Binance: 0.1% against 0.40% for makers and 0.80% for takers at the Kraken entry level. The Kraken rate falls with thirty-day volume.
Why does Kraken have so few pairs in your comparison?
We take only its USDT pairs, and there are fewer than fifty: almost everything there is quoted against the real dollar.
Does Kraken have P2P?
No, fiat moves by bank transfer. In exchange you hold real dollars and euro on the account, with no stablecoin in the middle.
What is good about Kraken staking?
Transparent terms and clear unbonding periods — it is one of the most developed staking sections on the market.
Can I use both?
Yes, and it makes sense: Kraken for a long-term position and bank rails, Binance for active trading and P2P funding.
Kraken or Binance — which should you pick?
It is the same choice whichever way round you write it. The comparison above is built on what can be measured: fees, pair counts, withdrawal chains and funding routes. Look less at which venue is "better" in general and more at which of those matters to you.
