In short: the difference
What Kraken is: a venue that works under supervision. On the market since 2011, jurisdiction: San Francisco, USA.
What KCEX is: an exchange with services around the trading. On the market since 2021, jurisdiction: Seychelles.
What Kraken gives you
Compared with an ecosystem, Kraken leans on its own strengths: The oldest venue we cover, running since 2011 under US regulation. Its distinction is real money: around seven hundred dollar pairs and five hundred and forty-six euro pairs, more than anyone here. There is spot, perpetual futures with hourly funding, staking and institutional services. Kraken is how we compute the live dollar rate in our stablecoin section.
Strong sides: 546 euro pairs and around seven hundred dollar ones, age and regulation, hourly funding.
What KCEX gives you
The regulated venue wins on money, KCEX on everything else: A derivatives venue: over eight hundred perpetual contracts, each publishing its funding rate and mark price, plus spot across some eight hundred and fifty pairs. What the venue sells itself on is zero spot fees and low futures rates. There is copy trading and new-coin launches; turnover is concentrated in the first hundred pairs, where the book is dense.
Strong sides: 800+ contracts with open rates and mark prices, zero spot fees per the venue’s own schedule, early listings.
What decides it
- Age. Kraken has run since 2011, KCEX since 2021 — a gap of 10 years. It guarantees nothing on its own, but the older venue has been through more market cycles.
- Jurisdiction. Kraken sits in San Francisco, USA, KCEX in Seychelles. It shapes both the checks you pass and what the venue has to disclose.
- Strengths side by side. Kraken: 546 euro pairs and around seven hundred dollar ones, age and regulation, hourly funding; KCEX: 800+ contracts with open rates and mark prices, zero spot fees per the venue’s own schedule, early listings.
- Which job. Kraken is for settling in real dollars and euro rather than stablecoins, while KCEX is primarily as a futures venue in funding.
- Worth remembering. Kraken: entry-level fees run higher than neighbours — it pays off at larger volumes. KCEX: spot books are served one pair per request, so we keep the top hundred by turnover under watch.

What people ask most
Kraken: Does Kraken have P2P? No. Fiat comes in and out by bank transfer; there is no merchant-ad marketplace.
Kraken: What makes Kraken useful for stablecoins? It has genuine USD pairs, which is how we compute the live dollar rate. Without that anchor, USDT’s deviation would be measured against USDT itself.
Kraken: Why does Kraken funding look different? The exchange publishes the rate in dollars per contract per hour rather than as a fraction of price, and it accrues hourly rather than every eight hours.
KCEX: Why does spot arbitrage show only some KCEX pairs? The exchange serves its book one pair per request and limits requests to roughly five a second. Walking eight hundred pairs within a single refresh is not possible, so we watch the top hundred by turnover, where nearly all the volume sits. Using the last trade price instead of a book was not an option: you cannot buy at it.
KCEX: How many contracts and pairs does KCEX have? By our measurements over eight hundred perpetual contracts and around eight hundred and fifty spot pairs. The figures are live — they come from the exchange’s own directory on every refresh.
KCEX: Does KCEX take part in funding? Yes, in full. Every contract arrives in one list with its rate, accrual interval and next payout time, so the annualised rate is computed from the real interval rather than an assumption.
Both at once
Nothing stops you from opening an account on both: it is free, and a pair of venues almost always beats any single one on price. Deposits and withdrawals go through the regulated venue, trading and yield through the ecosystem. A stablecoin travels between them on a cheap network.
Live numbers
The figures above do not come from marketing pages: we compute them from the same market snapshots as the rest of the site. Kraken and KCEX can be compared on facts rather than promises.
What the numbers say
The transfer price stays behind the login on Kraken and on KCEX alike. Rather than publish a number we cannot verify, the row keeps a dash. The spot lists differ by 19.5× — 856 USDT pairs on KCEX, 44 on the other side. The futures list runs longer on KCEX: 820, against 209.
