Bybit vs Kraken

Kraken is good at the way in and out of real money, Bybit where leverage and contracts are needed. Not an either-or.

Compared by the numbers

These figures come from the venues themselves. Volume is missing on purpose: every exchange counts it its own way, and on a few the top of the book is tokenised equities. The bottom row counts the P2P currencies our scanner reaches, not everything the venue lists.

In short: the difference

Bybit is an exchange with a strong futures side. On the market since 2018, jurisdiction: Dubai, UAE, its own MNT token.

Kraken is an exchange for real-money settlement. On the market since 2011, jurisdiction: San Francisco, USA.

What Bybit gives you

The regulated venue wins on money, Bybit on everything else: A venue with a strong derivatives pedigree and an unusually comfortable interface. Spot, perpetual futures and options, P2P, Earn savings, copy trading with open trader statistics, trading bots and a card. Twenty networks for USDT withdrawals — more than anyone we cover — and several of them free.

Strong sides: 20 withdrawal networks, several of them free, an even book on the main pairs, transparent copy trading.

What Kraken gives you

Next to a derivatives terminal, Kraken answers with something else: The oldest venue we cover, running since 2011 under US regulation. Its distinction is real money: around seven hundred dollar pairs and five hundred and forty-six euro pairs, more than anyone here. There is spot, perpetual futures with hourly funding, staking and institutional services. Kraken is how we compute the live dollar rate in our stablecoin section.

Strong sides: 546 euro pairs and around seven hundred dollar ones, age and regulation, hourly funding.

What decides it

  • Age. Kraken has run since 2011, Bybit since 2018 — a gap of 7 years. It guarantees nothing on its own, but the older venue has been through more market cycles.
  • Jurisdiction. Bybit sits in Dubai, UAE, Kraken in San Francisco, USA. It shapes both the checks you pass and what the venue has to disclose.
  • Native token. MNT on Bybit cuts fees and opens launches; Kraken has no such lever.
  • Strengths side by side. Bybit: 20 withdrawal networks, several of them free, an even book on the main pairs, transparent copy trading; Kraken: 546 euro pairs and around seven hundred dollar ones, age and regulation, hourly funding.
  • Which job. Bybit is a natural second venue in a route: cheap transfers and predictable execution, while Kraken is for settling in real dollars and euro rather than stablecoins.
  • Worth remembering. Bybit: the spot listing is slimmer than the Asian venues with thousands of pairs. Kraken: entry-level fees run higher than neighbours — it pays off at larger volumes.

What people ask most

Bybit: Is there P2P here? Yes, across dozens of currencies. The section is more compact than Binance, and with less competition for the top rows the price is sometimes better.

Bybit: What is the unified trading account? A mode where spot, futures and options share collateral. A coin bought on spot backs your futures position, and free funds never sit idle in a separate wallet — the whole balance works.

Bybit: Are there options here? Yes, a proper section. Options are uncommon among exchanges, and Bybit is one of the few venues with the full derivatives set.

Kraken: What does trading on Kraken actually cost? At the entry tier, 0.80% taker and 0.40% maker, from its own fee schedule. The rate falls with thirty-day volume: reaching 0.20% taker takes a quarter of a million dollars traded in a month.

Kraken: Why does Kraken funding look different? The exchange publishes the rate in dollars per contract per hour rather than as a fraction of price, and it accrues hourly rather than every eight hours.

Kraken: What makes Kraken useful for stablecoins? It has genuine USD pairs, which is how we compute the live dollar rate. Without that anchor, USDT’s deviation would be measured against USDT itself.

Both at once

You do not have to pick one. Two accounts give you a fallback when the coin or network you need exists only on the other venue. Euro or hryvnia comes in on the regulated venue, moves as a stablecoin to the terminal, and the position opens there. Withdrawals take the same road back.

Frequently asked

Kraken or Bybit — which should you pick?
It is the same choice whichever way round you write it. The comparison above is built on what can be measured: fees, pair counts, withdrawal chains and funding routes. Look less at which venue is "better" in general and more at which of those matters to you.
