In short: the difference
OKX is a venue with bots and a Web3 side. On the market since 2017, jurisdiction: Seychelles, its own OKB token.
Gate is a venue that lists early and often. On the market since 2013, jurisdiction: Panama, its own GT token.
What OKX gives you
Against an early-listing venue, OKX plays a different game: One of the few venues with a full derivatives suite: spot, perpetual and dated futures, options. Plus P2P, savings and staking, coin launches on Jumpstart, copy trading, bots and its own Web3 wallet with access to decentralised exchanges. It runs its own X Layer network, where USDT withdrawals are free.
Strong sides: free withdrawals on its own X Layer network, a full derivatives suite, a built-in Web3 wallet.
What Gate gives you
The rival’s service list is wide, yet Gate wins on other things: One of the oldest venues, running since 2013, and first in our coverage for withdrawal networks: twenty-four for USDT alone. Two thousand spot pairs and a thousand perpetuals. There is P2P, savings and staking, Startup launches, copy trading, bots and its own GT token with fee discounts.
Strong sides: 24 USDT withdrawal networks, more than anyone, 2000 spot pairs, running since 2013.
What decides it
- Age. Gate has run since 2013, OKX since 2017 — a gap of 4 years. It guarantees nothing on its own, but the older venue has been through more market cycles.
- Jurisdiction. OKX sits in Seychelles, Gate in Panama. It shapes both the checks you pass and what the venue has to disclose.
- Native tokens. OKX has OKB, Gate has GT: holders usually get fee discounts and access to launches.
- Strengths side by side. OKX: free withdrawals on its own X Layer network, a full derivatives suite, a built-in Web3 wallet; Gate: 24 USDT withdrawal networks, more than anyone, 2000 spot pairs, running since 2013.
- Which job. OKX is for anyone who needs options and access to decentralised markets from one window, while Gate is for anyone who values freedom of choice when moving coins between chains.
- Worth remembering. OKX: the interface is dense: a newcomer needs time to settle in. Gate: the interface is dense with sections: finding the right one takes a while.
Which one fits you
OKX — for anyone who needs options and access to decentralised markets from one window.
Gate — for anyone who values freedom of choice when moving coins between chains.
What people ask most
OKX: Is the built-in Web3 wallet safe? It is non-custodial: the keys are yours, the exchange has no access and cannot recover funds. Its safety equals how well you keep the recovery phrase.
OKX: What is the separate European domain? Users in the European Economic Area are served by a separate legal entity on its own domain. Accounts and API keys do not carry across.
Gate: What is proof of reserves? A Merkle-tree procedure letting you verify your balance is counted in the exchange's liabilities and those liabilities are covered by assets. It does not reveal off-balance-sheet obligations.
Gate: What does the GT token give me? A fee discount and access to exchange programmes, including early sales.
Both at once
Most people end up keeping both: one for daily trades, the other for what the first one lacks. A rare coin is bought where it exists and moved to the ecosystem — easier to hold, stake or sell into a deeper book there.
Live numbers
Everything in the table above is recomputed together with the rest of the site — pairs, contracts, P2P, networks and the withdrawal fee. OKX and Gate can be compared on facts rather than promises.
What the numbers say
OKX asks less to move USDT — 0.0029 over ARBITRUM; Gate comes to 0.0500 ARBITRUM. Routes out differ: 26 USDT networks on Gate, 16 on OKX. A chain the other lacks is sometimes the cheapest way home. On perpetual contracts Gate is ahead — 1,070 to 517. Our scanner reads P2P advertisements on Gate in 72 currencies and on OKX in 16. Gate gives 4.4× the choice on spot: 2,038 USDT pairs against 467.
